A Rare And Beautiful WuCai Monk's Cap Ewer, Ming Dynasty, ChengHua Period (1464 - 1487)

The ewer is potted with a globular body with flora decoration around the neck, the mid-section comprising two dragons each chasing after a flaming ball, all above thrashing sea waves.  The handle is similarly decorated with multi-colour flora.  The cap has a nob and its rim is decorated with two leave scroll emanated from a red Ruyi sign.  The off-purple called 姹紫(chazi), a glaze which is unique to Chenghua ware is applied sparingly on this vessel.  A six character seal mark within a double-line square.  12 cm.High.
